Underdog Records buys used vinyl directly from the public, no appointment necessary. Bring by your albums any time Underdog is open, whether you have 10 or 300, and I will go through your collection and make you an offer on the spot. Underdog makes a cash offer on all used buys, or store credit if you prefer (which is good for about 25% more).

Underdog doesn't have a set amount it offers on used albums; it will depend entirely upon what you have to offer. Quality of titles, and condition of both LPs & covers play the dominant role.

Underdog does purchase 45s but most 70s/80s rock and r&b as well as 60s vocal (what we see most often) gets priced between $0.25 and $1, so take that into consideration when you anticipate what to expect for your collection of 45s.  Exceptions are soul & funk, garage rock, and 7"s from the 90s - current.  Please always err on bringing them by and letting me turn them down; many customers believe if it's not a household name I won't be interested, which is simply not true.  I'd rather spend my time going through your collection and finding they cannot be used than for you to self-veto your own collection.

Underdog does not typically purchase 78s but if you have some in amongst your collection, I will take a look at them.  I would be most interested in blues and early fiddle tunes.

When you bring your collection to Underdog, the process usually goes as such: I'll go through your offering of albums, pulling out titles of greatest interest and a few other random titles to condition check. If condition is consistent on those, I use that as a guide to the assumed condition of the bulk of the rest of the collection, and usually try to put together an offer for your entire collection, not just a cherry pick offer. Depending on the familiarity of your albums, and quantity, this can take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour or so. Most purchases are done in less than half an hour.

Underdog is a full service record store and purchases across a multitude of genres and eras, focusing primarily on 50s -> modern day and genres including rock, soul/r&b, jazz, blues, country, bluegrass, folk, metal, punk, blues, etc. Some common genres that we have to turn down include show tunes & musicals, big band, easy listening (Ferrante & Teicher, Henry Mancini, etc.), & classical. Underdog will purchase SOME classical LPs but the majority go into our $1 bin or become donated.

As I like to tell everyone interested in selling their albums: err on the side of caution and bring us EVERYTHING. The albums folks oftentimes think Underdog won't be interested in might be the ones we'd be interested in the most. Don't assume something has to be familiar and/or popular to be worth buying. Underdog has a broad and diverse customer base.

UNDERDOG ALSO PURCHASES YOUR OLD STEREO EQUIPMENT.

Turntables, phono receivers, and speakers are of greatest interest. Speakers must be in complete working order to buy but I may be able to work something out if a turntable or receiver needs minor repair, depending on what that entails.

Underdog does not purchase memorabilia at this time.  For example: vintage tee shirts, show posters, signed items besides albums, etc. I might be willing to trade on some items of this nature but will be entirely on a case-by-case basis.

Underdog's hours are Tuesday through Friday 11 am - 7 pm and Saturday 11 am - 5 pm. Have more than you can bring to the store or don't live near enough by? Come by the shop or give the store a call at 336-893-7293 and I'll be glad to try and arrange a time to come to you to look through your collection/equipment. If you do bring your collection to the shop, there is FREE PARKING so don't be scared off by our downtown address! We are located directly across the street from a large gravel parking lot, in which you can park for free. I am more than happy to come out and help you bring your albums in to facilitate your purchase. Underdog is also located two doors down from a great restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner (Lighthouse Grill) if you'd like to grab an iced tea or something to eat while I'm compiling you an offer, and three doors in the other direction from a comic book shop (Burke Street Comics) that also buys if you also have comic-related merchandise you're looking to sell.

As always, if you have any questions at all, give the shop a call (336-893-7293). Underdog looks forward to the privilege of going through your album collection.
